Summary Conspiracy of Hearts (1960)

Catholic nuns risk their lives to help Jewish children in an Italian internment camp escape to Palestine during World War II.

In wartime Italy nuns in a convent regularly smuggle Jewish children out of a nearby internment camp. The Italian army officer in charge suspects what may be going on but deliberately turns a blind eye. When the Germans take over the camp security the nuns' activities become far more dangerous.

Summary Remake (2003)

The parallel coming-of-age stories of a father living in Sarajevo during World War II and his son living through the Siege of Sarajevo during the Bosnian War.

With an interval of fifty years in between (1943-1993), the film brings experience of World War II and the Siege of Sarajevo during the Bosnian War. Remake tells two tragic stories in one. Before the onset of war in Bosnia, young writer Tarik sent a screenplay to a competition in France (the story of his father Ahmed, who experienced the outbreak of World War II in Sarajevo). Later, he is captured by the Serbian Army and is subjected to the cruel conditions of a labour camp. With help of the UN, he manages to get out of the besieged city and goes to Paris because a famous French film producer is interested in his script. Remake is however more than a war film. It is also a coming-of-age drama, with scenes in which Ahmed and Tarik go out with their friends, have fun, fall in love.
